About Lisl

How Lisl spends her days

Daily Activities: Lisl keeps incredibly busy working five days a week in the DOC work program doing grounds maintenance. She says that she enjoys the physically demanding dynamic of the work. Her spring and summer workdays includes of taking care of an entire quadrant of the campus by weeding and mowing, by hand, with a manual fly-wheel style, non-powered, mower. She says that she really has to push to keep ahead of the growth, or it becomes impossible to keep it mowed. She also cares for several of the pretty flowerbeds that decorate the grounds. In the fall and winter, the tasks change to cleaning up leaves, grooming the outside of the buildings, and snow removal. Lisl continues to insist that she enjoys all the work that comes along.

Education: Lisl's college education has been steadily progressing. She has completed the rigorous correspondence courses of Math, Psychology, and English through the Ohio University's College Program for the Incarcerated (CPI).

But better yet, Naropa University has recently started providing courses at the prison with professors teaching on-site four nights a week. Because the college courses are taught at the prison, it makes for a much better learning opportunity. Lisl is currently taking the courses Natural Science, College Mathematics, and Urban Experience Sociology.

She finds the courses very challenging, but also very rewarding, and she wants to continue in her college studies whatever the outcome of her case. Ideally, Lisl would like to pursue her college education in a traditional university setting.

Lisl wants to extend her thanks to the friends who continue to support her in her education.

Other Activities: When Lisl does manage to find some free time she enjoys reading, creating art, and crocheting and knitting items for her nieces. Through the help of friends and relatives, Lisl has been able to obtain the materials that will allow her to continue to express herself artistically.
